just in...

Brown shirted, brown trucked, and with considerable effort, a maxim hyper delivery dude deposited our newest allotment of hard to acquire Walla Walla juice. The Cougar Crest Anniversary Cuvee and Cabernet Franc is nesting restfully on our shelves but in very limited quantity. We popped the cork on one Cuvee for our weekend tasting to see how it performs. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot make up this usual toasty-toffee-mocha mouthful of fruit. Rumor has it the Hungarian oak has some considerable influence. The Cab Franc has a little Malbec in it. We may have to open that one too.

wines that make you slobber...

Muscadet, Aligote, even a white Bordeaux that is high on the acidic side of saliva stimulation and what food could these wines possibly be worthy of tackling, complimenting or supplementing in a symbiotic manner resulting in shear delight... possibly nearing decadence? Maybe something briny; something ancient, buried beneath depths of waves, ocean floor sweepers so connected to the health of a region... fragile against environmental extremes, and so very tasty?

Oysters!

And not that more of a lubricant is needed for these shell encrusted wonders to slither across the palate and then into the gullet, it just enhances a given standard... not fixing anything that was never broken. Try any of these wines on their own and you may be looking for a chaser to mop up the residuals of widely opened flood gates. I think a raw oyster or six to be a much better choice than a soda cracker.

accumulative perspectives...

...and it is that time of year to take inventory of year-long retail happenings, perception driven or the real thing, as we are still but neophyte waifs within the hierarchy pertaining to this realm. We have learned much. We have much to learn. Whether fighting with a tyrannical regulatory governance authority over our perceived right to exist as an entrepreneurial entity or fighting the distribution authority and our perceived entitlement versus theirs; one to be treated as a customer instead of an employee--some still believe we do not give them enough money to warrant less than indifference to our cause, some do care that we need to exist at our own speed to survive and understand the win-win scenario--we will be making adjustments accordingly within the next few weeks to rectify that imbalance. When we have blown out the walls and taken over most of the building it will be interesting to see how that all plays out as we are finding out... it's not about the juice, it's about how it is presented. For further reference, see the up and coming Interminable Adventures of the Immovable Man at a theater near you. Hrrrmph!

The new point-of-sales, otherwise known as the POS and we all know that another acronym exists for POS other than point-of-sales, is obnoxiously absorbed with its quest to continually torture those it was supposedly designed to serve... I think all that and a bag of chips leaves things quite self explanatory. Hate it!

Other than that, it has been an incredible year and we can only hope that from this point on, it will be deemed our worse as we really have nothing to base on what we should be doing at this new locale. Hooray!

More drivel to follow before the new year as I am always full of it... drivel that is...

a white christmas...

This was emailed from a former North Pugetropolis resident and customer who now with her husband is in the midst of a cyclical redundancy adventure in Texas. It seems rather apropos...

not so simple sugars...

an elf appeared yesterday, assuming it was an elf and a mischiefly devious one at that, one that in the midst of total sincerity and within all the guidelines of the spirit of giving pertaining to this time of season, this said elf left a present. Though a delightful gesture at that, we are not able to indulge ourselves on this gift for it has more sugar than our revamped systems can tolerate. We over-buzz and crash and feel quite miserable. The problem is, these Christmas-ie mouthfuls of fudge and caramel and chocolate are ideal with what we are pouring today. A 1999 ready to drink Brunello and even the smell off the platter is enough to send one over the edge into a sugar-coated oblivion. So for those who can tolerate a few festive nibbles without major repercussion, they are out on the bar for all to share... until they aren't.

More on that Lemberger...

After two days ignoring it with the cork still in the bottle and suspecting the fruit never to show itself, we took it home to pour into a future spaghetti sauce and to our amazement, that shy to the point of nonexistent fruit decided to show itself and in a huge way... for Lemberger. It went very well with the shrimp stir-fry Italian style. Again... it's about patience and air.

New Art...

I'm sitting on my favorite writing perch listening to an old Willie and Lobo cd, trying to dissect a Two Mountain Lemberger from Yakima Valley, and staring at the south of the border Red-Green-Blue guns of our new featured artist, Guzztavo Vargas. There is a ton more fruit in the paintings than there is in the Lemberger... but that's Lemberger, otherwise known as Blue Franc which is supposed to be light and foodie-like. I do remember some fruit when I first tasted it, but right now I'm just getting wood and acidity. This appears to be an all day play. Back to the paintings... Guzztavo's interpretation of the accordion cowgirl is hot.

Snow is in the forecast, comfort wines are open and breathing on the counter, Willie and Lobo on the stereo, and the cowgirls are swaying. Maybe I should put the Lemberger down.
